A million dollar speech
Meghan Markle, duchess of Sussex, spouse of Duke Prince Harry and a former actress delivered a speech at the UN. In her speech, she spoke about an incident that happened at her very young age. She was an 11years old girl and was watching a T V show in elementary school. She suddenly saw an advertisement of diswashing liquid with a tagline, ” Women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans.” To her utter shock, two boys from her class said, ” Yeah, that’s where women belong in the kitchen.” A saddened and angry Meghan told everything to her father who encouraged her to do something as a protest against this incident. She write letters to the first lady Hillary Clinton, to Linda Ellerbee who hosted a kids news programme, to Gloria Allred , the powerhouse attorny , and to the soap manufacturer . Ooh ! What an enigmatic soul at such a tiny age Meghan was! And her effort didn’t go in vain! She was encouraged back with letters from all of them to whom she wrote. It was not enough. After a month, the soap manufacturer changed the tagline . It was then “People all over America..”
This incident made Meghan feel the power and impact of her action when she was only 11 years old.
Hundreds and thousands powerful women have crossed over the path of civilization and have made their steps memorable. But this ‘hundreds and thiusands’ is not enough. Million women in this world are suffering not because of poverty or caste or race. But they don’t know their own value. We all are survivors in different ways. Every successful person has to struggle at one stage of life. A woman too lives one life . So , when a woman knows to make proper use of time and opportunities, she would surely make this world a better place for herself and for others.
